Hi guys,

Just wondered if anyone can help at all! I've had chronic rashes which are hot, itchy and burning for 2 years now. They're localised to my face, ears, neck, hands, wrists and chest. They are less severe but still present on my upper back, arms and shoulders. I have been taking oral steroids, fedofenadine (antihistamine) as well as all available creams (including steroid, emollient, antifungal etc) to no avail. I have been to see my GP almost weekly! Private dermatologists, herbal doctors and hospital consultants to no avail or diagnosis. I have installed a water softener, landscaped the garden as well as having changed all cosmetic products and washing powders etc. I've had a course of patch testing which resulted in grass (hay fever) and superglue (not something which I use) allergies. The course of the rash seems to be that it gets really hot and itchy on one day, then for a week afterwards the affected skin just falls off from dryness. The rash never seems to disappear completely. I've been told it's eczema but it doesn't seem anything like that to me, the dryness is only caused by the incredible heat. I've been told it's contact dermatitis - but I have changed all my products and I can't think of any single product which I use on all of these areas? The one thing I do know, is that this all started when I moved into my new house. The house is 10 years old wirh 2 previous owners (no pets), everything has been decorated, replaced and thoroughly cleaned. If anyone can think of anything please let me know!

Thanks xx

Hi Lulu
I had a very itchy rash, although it doesn't quite sound the same as yours. Mine was more constant and wasn't that dry. I googled images for 'very itchy rash' and followed up the ones that looked closest to my own. All of them related to gluten intolerance. I cut out gluten completely for a couple of months and the rash cleared up. When I reintroduced gluten, the rash came back. I've been gluten free for nearly a year now and it's incredible. It's like having a new body!

I would suggest seeing if you can find images or descriptions of rashes like yours on the internet and see what the sufferers recommend.

Good luck
